MANILA, Philippines – In what seems to be a bizarre turn of events, policemen in Quezon City found themselves saving two suspected thieves from an angry mob that attacked them after allegedly stealing an mp3 player from a bystander on Thursday, an official said on Friday.

Police arrived in time to save Christopher Nacua alias Peng-peng, 22, and Jonathan Obing, 17, from being mauled by an “irate mob” for reportedly stealing the mp3 player and P300 cash of a 14-year old girl at Osmeña Street, TS Cruz Subdvision, Barangay (village) Nagkaisang Nayon in Novaliches at 10 a.m., said Chief Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief.

The victim and her friends were sitting on the sidewalk, listening to music, when the suspects, on board a motorcycle, arrived and suddenly grabbed the mp3 player of the victim, said Gatdula.

She immediately shouted for help and caught the attention of the bystanders, who immediately cornered the suspects, Gatdula said.

Policemen patrolling the area saw the commotion and brought the suspects to the station for the filing of appropriate charges, Gatdula said.
