MANILA, Philippines — A man tagged the most wanted in Region 11 for allegedly leading a crime gang was killed with two of his companions while three policemen were wounded in a shootout in Compostela Valley province Friday night, police reports said.

Reports from the regional police office said that at around 8 p.m., personnel of the Compostela Valley provincial police office led by Inspector Alain Licdan were about to serve an arrest warrant on members of the notorious Djangla Robbery Group at Sitio (sub-village) Kimawa, Barangay (village) Osmeña when the suspects fired at them.

The five-minute shootout left alleged gang leader Emmanuel Quijano, alias Djangla, and his two still unidentified companions dead.

Quijano was wanted in the region for several murder and drug-related cases, the police report said.

Police Officer 2 Allan Ruiz was in critical condition after he was hit by shrapnel from a grenade hurled by the suspects. Police Officers 3 Randy Pingol and Diomedis Villaneuva suffered minor wounds.

The wounded policemen are confined at the Tagum Doctors Hospital for treatment, the report said.

Recovered from the scene were two .45 caliber pistols, one fragmentation hand grenade, and 300 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu).
