Kidnapped Chinese architect rescued — police

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE) Police on Saturday morning successfully rescued a Chinese national abducted last September 10, resulting in the death of one unidentified suspect and the arrest of another.

Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina, Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (PACER) chief, said his men successfully rescued Ka Kuen Chua, 46, an architect and hardware owner in Quezon City, from a safe house located at 45 Belen Street, Barangay (village) Gulod, Novaliches at.around 11:30 a.m. today.

Initial investigation revealed that the house was owned by a certain Adriano Ventulla, a resident of Marikina City. Espina said Ventulla will be invited for questioning.

Police operatives exchanged fire with the suspects, one of whom died. Christopher Nanson, 31, a native of Camalig, Albay residing in Novaliches, Quezon City, was arrested after.

Chua was immediately brought to the hospital for treatment and check-up, Espina said.

As of posting time, Scene of the Crime Operatives have been sent to the area and PACER operatives are conducting follow-up operations to capture the two remaining suspects.

Police have also recovered a .45 caliber pistol in the crime scene, Espina said.

Chua was abducted outside his hardware store at around 11 p.m. September 10 by four unidentified armed men clad in shirts with “Police” printed on them. Chua was forced inside a white Toyota vehicle.

Kidnappers initially demanded P30-million ransom for Chua’s release.
