MANILA, Philippines — An hour-long fire struck a residential area of Taguig City, gutting at least 15 houses early Monday afternoon, Senior Inspector Rolando Reodique, city fire marshal, said.

The fire at St. Michael’s Subdivision in the village of Hagonoy, which broke out at 1:22 p.m. reached the fifth alarm, burning down 12 houses and partially damaging three others, said Senior Fire Officer 4 Peter Se, chief arson investigator of the Taguig Fire Department, in a phone interview.

Se said three persons, including a child, suffered minor injuries. John Santos, 8, suffered from minor electrocution; Richard Santos, 21, had lacerations in his right forearm; and Mario Cipriano, 53, suffered first degree burns.

It took 16 fire trucks to fight the fire, which reportedly started at the house of a Pilar Cebrial, before it was declared out at exactly 2:10 p.m., Se said.
