MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed four flood control structures in the province of Masbate, which were part of the “pro-poor priority projects” of the agency, an official said on Tuesday.

In a statement, Masbate 1st District Engineer Ely Tungala said the P11 million flood control project consisted of dike constructions in Quezon Street, Masbate City, Barangay (Village) Tugbo in Masbate City, Barangay Bonbon in Milagros City, and Barangay Lagta in Baleno City.

These flood control structures is aimed at protecting agricultural lands and villages in the area in case of heavy rains, Tungala said.

“We have prioritized the implementation of these flood control structures because Masbate is located within the typhoon belt. The newly built structures now protect a total of seven barangay and 40 hectares of agricultural lands,” he added.
